VN7050ASTR Overview

The VN7050ASTR is a single-channel high-side driver developed using STMicroelectronics' proprietary VIPower M0-7 technology and packaged in an SO-8 form factor. Designed for 12 V automotive applications, the device can drive grounded loads through 3 V and 5 V CMOS-compatible interfaces.
The device integrates a wide range of advanced protection and diagnostic functions. These include load current limitation, overload management through power limitation, and overtemperature shutdown with configurable latch-off protection.

How to Test VN7050ASTR?
First, a basic functional check should be performed by applying a 4 V to 28 V DC supply to the VCC pin, then driving the INPUT pin with a logic high signal via a microcontroller or signal generator. An oscilloscope is used to observe the OUTPUT switching behavior and switching delays (ton/toff). Next, by varying the load resistance, the linearity of the MultiSense pin is verified to ensure that the sensed voltage is proportional to the actual load current.
Second, stress testing should focus on safety protection and diagnostic functions. By simulating output short-to-ground or overload conditions, verify whether the internal current limitation and overtemperature protection can properly shut down the power stage, and check if the MultiSense pin correctly reports fault levels. In addition, the SEL0/1 pins are used to switch the internal multiplexer (MUX) to sequentially monitor current sensing, supply voltage feedback, and chip temperature.
